However, more than one million of those visitors may have now got spyware and adware problems as a result of clicking on an errant banner advertisement posted on the site. The banner ad, discovered by an analyst at security firm iDefense, was posted by a site called deckoutyourdeck.com and exploited a flaw in Microsoft& 39;s Internet Explorer browser which caused users to visit a number of web sites and download adware and spyware. The flaw exploited a hole in Internet Explorer, which has been patched since January, which allowed a Trojan horse program to be downloaded through a WMF image. Once infected, users& 39; machines receive unwanted pop-up ads and constant monitoring of their activity while online. It is not entirely clear how a high profile web site such as MySpace could enable an illegal advertisement containing malware to be served to its pages from its network of ad servers.
